Current goings on at Fragged

Christmas is bearing down on us at an exceptional rate as per bloody usual! This time however we're going to be coming into it swinging. After all the trials and tribulations with servers over the years (first GibletsI not having the horsepower, GibletsII having board issues forever, GibletsIII spontaneously melting down) and the switchgear failures (The CNet never recovered), we've finally put all that drama behind us. GibletsIV has proven exceptionally reliable - you plug it in, it powers up, everything works. At this point we're gunning for a second LevelOne switch to supplement our current primary before Christmas comes around, mostly for additional capacity and speed but as redundancy as well.

As for LANs, there's one left before Christmas, in October. Details on the forums and on Facebook. Get into the thick of it - the better the numbers for a bimonthly, the more likely we'll be able to get that second switch in time.

If you guys haven't figured it out already I'm exceptionally awful at updating the news! In any case, the BGM has been and gone and we've had a few regular LANs since. Another is coming up soon, check the forums for more information. Now in the news - since the last updates, we've had a hell of a shocking run with servers. Giblets III died directly after the Christmas LAN, total board failure. We reinstated Giblets II in prep for the February LAN, which it hosted perfectly. Upon configuring for the May LAN (it didn't attend BGM) Giblets II also failed, its old board gremlins had returned. Never fear however! This time I'm sick of rebuilding servers directly before LANs, so behold Giblets IV!

Christmas is over, and preparations have begun for an in-betweener LAN to fill the gap between now and Easter. Good times, good times! There was fun and excitement at this year's Christmas LAN, including a fairly gnarly incident where the gigabit switch decided to go tits on us. The poor wee bugger, but don't worry, we'll have it patched up and back in action before you guys realize it's down!

So there's been a few LANs since easter and things have started to bed into a proper routine. Mauritangi is getting more like home with every visit, and the LAN camp theory seems to be sitting well with the patrons. Giblets III is now officially tested and reliable - about time we had a permanent and dependable server! Now it's all lead up to the Christmas LAN... bring it on!

Everyone's recovering from the awesomeness that was the Barry Gibbs Memorial LAN 2009. But we all get back to our homes to discover the forums have been bombed by goddamned Russian spammer scum. Thus, a site overhaul begins... keep an eye out.
